Our friends at the Harvard Negotiation Law Review (ok, fine, we don’t actually know them), have a fine little piece up about communicating using technology and the challenges it can present. The intended audience is not of the 2.0 generation and may have recently discovered e-mail, but the nuggets of wisdom in the post are valuable. Especially for freelancers.
It’s easy to rely on email for client communication, but it doesn’t always serve you well. Face-to-face meetings work best, the phone is usually an acceptable substitute, and email will get you into trouble more often than it won’t.
Go read the article and promise me you’ll use the phone as your primary method of communication at least 50% of the time this week. You can do it!
